The Winter Classic

Taylor and Mike were so excited to be going to the Winter Classic hockey game - not only is it the only outdoor game to be played all year, this year it just happened to be their favorite teams - the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins!

Here they are at the airport on Friday afternoon - already in their team colors

I've never seen two people more excited to get on the bus!  Because the weather was so warm, the game was delayed from 1pm to 8pm.  We spent the day wandering around Pittsburgh - mostly at the mall, but just waiting for 4:30 to come so we could head to the game.
Heinz Field
This was the view from the cheap seats - the camera actually makes it look worse than it was!  We could see pretty well from where we were - and the big screen at the end of the stadium helped.  The game looks a lot different when you can see the whole ice, definitely not the same as watching it on TV.
There were almost 70,000 people in the stadium - it was crazy!
Two Penguin fans and a Capital - this was before the rain started in the 3rd period.  We were definitely cold and wet!  Good thing it was late in the game.. and good thing we brought jackets with hoods!

So, after getting back to the hotel at 1am, we had to get up at 6 to get to the airport in time for our flight.  But of course, the flights were delayed.. for 7 hours!!  We were all exhausted - and stuck in DC.. Nothing else to do but eat, read, and take a nap..
And play "coin hockey" at one of the airport restaurants.. Mike swears it's a real game, but I think he made it up.  I'm sure they were glad to see us leave!

All in all, it was a great trip - we had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs.  I would go to another game in a minute!  Let's just hope the next one is within driving distance!
